Organizing mods

Create folders on the Installed tab to group related mods. Folders can be nested to any depth.

  • Create a folder - click the folder icon in the toolbar, or right-click an existing folder and select New subfolder.
  • Move a mod into a folder - drag it from the list and drop it onto the folder name.
  • Rename or delete - right-click the folder.

Deleting a folder moves its contents to the parent level; the mod files are not removed from disk.

Some game targets load loose .pak files alphabetically. For those targets, Modrex translates your visual order into numeric prefixes (001_, 002_, …) on the actual filenames on disk.

Keep higher-priority .pak mods higher in the list. Modrex writes the filenames so the game loads them in the intended order.

Drag mods up and down within the list to reorder them. Priority is scoped to siblings within the same folder - mods in different folders don’t compete unless they reference the same game assets.

See Priority and state for how visual order, filename prefixes, enabled state, and missing files work across game targets.

Directory-based targets are not renamed for load order. Modrex still lets you organize them into folders and enable or disable them.

Mods that install multiple files can be opened in Manage files. Use it to search the files in a mod, enable or disable individual entries, remove selected entries, or reinstall a missing entry from the original archive when Modrex can identify it.

Missing files appear as ghost rows so you can repair a partially deleted mod without reinstalling everything.

Open Manage files from the options menu on any mod card or list row. The same menu also lets Crime Boss users move a mod between the ModKit and legacy install targets — see Crime Boss.

Click the toggle on a folder’s header row to enable or disable every mod inside it at once, including nested subfolders. Individual mod toggles still work inside a collapsed folder.

Click a folder name to collapse or expand it. Collapsed state is saved between sessions.

Switch the Installed tab between grid and list layout using the view toggle in the toolbar. The choice is remembered per game.

The Health Check scans your entire installed library and groups any issues it finds by category. Open it from the toolbar on the Installed tab.

Each category has its own tab and a bulk action in the footer:

CategoryWhat it flagsBulk action
Missing filesMods whose files are no longer on diskReinstall all
Broken archivesMods whose installed file is a corrupt or unextracted archiveReinstall all
Outdated installsMods with a version mismatch or a stale duplicate fileReinstall all
Unrecognized modsMods Modrex can’t match to a modworkshop entry
Missing dependenciesMods whose required loader or dependency isn’t installedInstall All Dependencies
Available updatesMods with a newer version on modworkshopReview updates (opens the Updates modal)

You can also act on individual rows inside each tab. Installing a missing dependency updates the tab immediately so you can see what’s still outstanding without closing the modal.
