Launch modes

Modrex can start the active game with managed mods enabled or temporarily move managed mods aside for a clean session.

Click Launch to start the active game with enabled mods in place. Modrex uses the active game’s saved launcher and passes through launch options when that launcher supports them.

Disabled mods stay disabled. Missing files are not restored during launch; reinstall or repair them from the Installed tab first.

Use Launch without mods when you want to start the active game as vanilla without uninstalling your mod setup.

Modrex temporarily backs up the active game’s managed targets, launches the game, then restores the targets when it detects that the game has closed.

Backups are target-specific. A game with multiple targets can have multiple temporary backup folders, such as one for a loose .pak target and another for a directory-based loader target.

This keeps secondary targets from being left behind during a clean launch.

After the game closes, Modrex restores the backed-up targets automatically. While a vanilla session may still be running, a banner reminds you mods are hidden and offers a manual Restore mods button. If the app was closed before restore completed, reopen Modrex and use that button (or the normal installed-mod view) to confirm your files are back in place.

Launch options are saved per game. PAYDAY 3 .pak mods commonly require -fileopenlog; other games rely on their own loader or target behavior.

See Settings for where launch options are configured and Supported games for game-specific notes.
