Installing mods
From Browse
Section titled “From Browse”The Browse tab shows the modworkshop catalog for the active game. Click any mod to open its detail page, then click Install. Modrex downloads the file, extracts it if needed, and places it in the correct location automatically. The Install button shows a live download percentage and progress bar while the file is transferring.
Use the search box to filter by name, the category dropdown to narrow the catalog, and the sort control to order results by last updated, most downloaded, most liked, newest, or name.
Supported local file formats: .pak, .zip, .7z, .rar, .tar.gz, .tar.xz.
Archives can contain loose .pak files, directory mods, mod_overrides content, UE4SS Lua mods, or
game-specific folder layouts. Modrex routes entries based on the active game’s install targets. See
Archives and loaders for the classification rules and
Supported games for the exact targets for each game.
Multi-file mods
Section titled “Multi-file mods”Some mods ship multiple files or folders inside a single archive. When Modrex detects this, it opens a picker so you can choose which entries to install. All entries are pre-selected by default - deselect any you don’t want.
Loader and host-mod dependencies
Section titled “Loader and host-mod dependencies”Some mods require a loader such as SuperBLT, PDTHModOverrides, DAHM, or UE4SS. When Modrex can install a required loader directly, the dependency warning includes an install action. If a dependency is hosted offsite, Modrex opens the external download page so you can install it manually.
When multiple dependencies can be auto-installed, the dialog shows an Install all button to handle them in one click. Each install button shows a progress indicator while the download is running, and clicking a dependency’s row opens its mod detail page.
Some PAYDAY 2 content packs belong inside another host mod instead of directly inside the game. When Modrex recognizes that pattern, it prompts you to install the required host mod and then places the pack inside it. If an archive cannot be placed safely, Modrex shows the author’s instructions instead of guessing. See Archives and loaders for how host-mod content is handled.
External links
Section titled “External links”If a mod’s download is hosted outside modworkshop (external link), Modrex shows a warning and opens the link in your browser. Download the file manually, then install it from a local file.
From a local file
Section titled “From a local file”Drag a supported file onto the Installed tab, or click Install from file in the top bar. Modrex handles extraction and placement the same way as a Browse install.
Enable and disable
Section titled “Enable and disable”Toggle the switch next to any mod to enable or disable it without uninstalling. Disabled mods are
moved to a disabled/ subfolder with a .disabled extension - they’re preserved on disk but the
game ignores them.
Uninstalling
Section titled “Uninstalling”Right-click a mod and select Uninstall, or use the context menu. The mod’s file (.pak-based
targets) or folder (directory-based targets, such as BLT, BeardLib, or ModKit mods) is deleted from
disk and the mod is removed from Modrex’s state.
Uninstalling is permanent. If you want to keep the file but stop using the mod, disable it instead.
Reinstalling and updating
Section titled “Reinstalling and updating”Click Reinstall on a mod to re-download and replace its current file. If Modrex detects newer
versions for installed mods, use the update prompt to review and install them in bulk. The
Update All button shows a progress counter (1 / N, 2 / N, …) while working through the
queue.
The News tab shows official headlines, summaries, and images for the active game, scraped from paydaythegame.com. It’s only available for games with a supported news source. Click Refresh to check for new articles, or Read article to open one in your browser.
